What is Shield in Salesforce?

Over time, it can be noticed that more and more companies use Salesforce to a greater extent and collect more and more data in it, which requires appropriate protection. This is especially important for industries related to finance and insurance, which can store sensitive data such as credit card numbers. The ability to precisely observe user behavior, track their interactions with data and protect against potential leaks or attacks.

Of course, such companies are often subject to additional regulations and must meet additional requirements, such as compliance with the Cloud Communication of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority.

◾️Salesforce Shield is a trio of security tools that helps admins and developers build extra levels of trust, compliance, and governance right into business-critical apps. It includes Shield Platform Encryption, Event Monitoring, and Field Audit Trail.

➡️Shield Platform Encryption
It allows you to ensure data security without blocking typical business tasks such as: searches, lookups, validation rules, chatter posts. Data is stored in standard and custom fields, as well as in files and attachments that are encrypted with an advanced HSM based key derivation system. It allows you to ensure data confidentiality, including the ability to use your own encryption keys, as well as key lifecycle management. Sensitive data is protected from all users (including administrators).

➡️Event Monitoring
It deals with the monitoring, prevention and mitigation of threats to sensitive data. Thanks to event monitoring, we know who, when and from where has access to critical data in real time, and also via log-files. It prevents data loss thanks to data security policies. It allows you to detect internal threats and report anomalies, as well as to audit user behavior and measure the performance of a custom application.

➡️Field Audit Trail
Field Audit Tail lets you define a policy to retain archived field history data up to 10 years from the time the data was archived. This feature helps you comply with industry regulations related to audit. It allows you to manage large amounts of data with Async SOQL APIs.
